The Blue Haven Bungalow

The Art of Booking: The Blue Haven Bungalow Strategic STR Design

This project was a strategic blend of design restraint and revenue-minded decisions, transforming a modest Carrboro home into a high-performing short-term rental with broad guest appeal. The goal was to create a space that felt locally inspired and visually compelling, while remaining efficient, flexible, and cost-conscious.

From the start, the design focused on minimalism with intention—leaning into Carrboro’s artsy, boho character and subtle UNC influence without over-theming. A warm, neutral palette layered with texture and curated moments allowed the home to photograph beautifully while appealing to families, professionals, and university visitors alike. Existing furnishings were thoughtfully integrated with new pieces to maximize ROI without sacrificing cohesion.

Each room was designed to serve multiple guest types. The primary suite anchors the listing with a calm, elevated retreat, while the queen guest room offers hotel-style comfort. The bunk room was intentionally reimagined with universal styling, allowing it to function just as well for adult groups as it does for families—maximizing sleeping capacity without limiting audience.

Lighting played a critical role throughout the home, with layered ambient solutions used to enhance warmth and usability where overhead lighting was limited. Functional upgrades, smart storage, and durable selections ensured smooth turnovers and long-term performance.

Outdoor and entry spaces were refined with subtle updates that elevated curb appeal and security while preserving the home’s original charm. The result is a guest-ready property that feels effortless, well-considered, and authentic to its surroundings.

By pairing thoughtful design with operational efficiency, this home is positioned to stand out in a competitive market—driving stronger bookings, consistent reviews, and faster returns for the owner.
